Sarasota, FL — A man was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies early Saturday after they responded to a report of a suicide attempt in the 6200 block of Cardigan Circle, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at approximately 12:39 a.m. on November 15 and encountered a male suspect who was armed with a handgun, the sheriff’s office said. A confrontation followed, during which deputies fired and struck the suspect.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Sheriff’s Office said its Deputy-Involved Shooting Team is conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. No deputies were injured.
Officials stated that the office is committed to transparency and will release additional information as the investigation progresses.
