Sarasota, FL – Residents in Sarasota County will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications this Saturday, October 25, during the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) will host the event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its headquarters, 6010 Cattleridge Blvd., Sarasota.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the turn-in program allows for anonymous disposal of solid dosage medications — including both prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules. Liquids and needles will not be accepted.

The annual campaign, coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), aims to prevent prescription drug misuse by offering a safe and environmentally responsible method of disposal. While many law enforcement agencies maintain year-round drop boxes, the Take Back Day encourages public awareness about removing potentially dangerous medications from homes.

Residents who cannot attend Saturday’s event can locate permanent drop-off locations by visiting the DEA’s disposal site locator at apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov or by calling 1-800-882-9539.
