Venice, Florida — A Venice man was arrested this week in a 2025 Tamiami Trail homicide case.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested Zachary Hunter Bolin, 32, of Venice on Wednesday, March 11, in connection with the fatal shooting of Patrick Alan Warrick, 42.

Bolin has been charged with homicide: murder dangerous depraved without premeditation, authorities said.

The investigation stems from an incident that occurred April 22, 2025, when deputies responded at approximately 1:56 a.m. to the 3900 block of South Tamiami Trail after reports of an injured, unresponsive person lying on a sidewalk.

When deputies arrived, they found Warrick suffering from a gunshot wound to his right shoulder and another to his abdomen, according to the sheriff’s office. He was later pronounced dead at 2:31 a.m.

Detectives say the case remained under investigation for months as investigators used multiple investigative techniques to develop evidence and identify a suspect.

Authorities said Bolin was taken into custody without incident in Venice and was transported to the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, where he remains booked.

The sheriff’s office said the homicide investigation is ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900.

The case highlights ongoing violent crime investigations that can affect late-night workers and commuters in busy commercial corridors like South Tamiami Trail.
