Santa Fe, NM – A man was arrested in Santa Fe after allegedly being caught spray-painting a local business, according to the New Mexico State Police.

Authorities say a state police officer spotted the suspect Wednesday night on Camino de Jacobo actively painting graffiti on a storage building. When the officer approached with a spotlight, the man allegedly grabbed a backpack and fled on foot.

After a brief search assisted by Santa Fe Police, officers located the suspect near Zafarano Drive. Investigators later found a silver Subaru connected to him, containing a ballistic vest, duty belt, and nearly 100 cans of spray paint. Police said fresh yellow graffiti reading “WULFIE” had been discovered at two different locations nearby.

The suspect, identified as Omari Jabir Herring-King, was arrested and booked into the Santa Fe Adult Detention Center on two counts of unauthorized graffiti (over $1,000) and one count of trespassing.

New Mexico State Police said the arrest highlights the success of proactive patrols designed to reduce property crime and protect local businesses.

Authorities continue to investigate possible connections between the graffiti and other recent tagging incidents across the Santa Fe area.
