Santa Claus, IN – Two people are dead following a reported murder-suicide in Spencer County on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office said they received a 911 call around 12:17 p.m. on October 14, 2025, from Jamie Adkins, 48, who allegedly told dispatchers she had just shot her husband. Officers from the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence in Santa Claus, Indiana.

According to police, officers attempted to make contact with the woman but were unsuccessful. Upon entering the home, investigators found John Adkins, 49, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Jamie Adkins was also located inside the residence with a gunshot wound and was transported by ambulance to Owensboro Hospital in Kentucky, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities confirmed that autopsies will be conducted in both Vanderburgh County and Chrisney, Spencer County, as the investigation remains active. Officials said that all family members have been notified.
