Santa Clarita, California – Mandatory evacuations swept through northern Los Angeles and Ventura counties Thursday as the Canyon Fire surged past 1,000 acres, threatening neighborhoods and forcing residents to leave with little notice. Emergency officials ordered residents in CAS-ROMERO, CAS-HASLEY, CAS-OAKCANYON, and CAS-VALVERDE to evacuate immediately as flames advanced toward Castaic.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, evacuation warnings now cover CAS-INDUSTRY, CAS-CAMBRIDGE, CAS-HILLCREST, CAS-SLOAN, CAS-GREENHILL, and CAS-GOLDENSTATE-B. Residents in these zones are urged to prepare to leave if conditions worsen. Local authorities advise checking evacuation status at genasys.com, signing up for emergency alerts, and tracking road closures through lacounty.gov.

The College of the Canyons gymnasium in Santa Clarita has opened as a shelter, with parking available in lots 5, 6, and 7. Large animals can be evacuated to Pierce College in Woodland Hills, while small pets are being accepted at the Castaic Animal Care Center and Agoura Hills Animal Shelter.

Officials warn the threat could persist into the night, with more evacuation orders possible if the fire spreads. Residents should remain alert for further updates and be ready to act quickly.
