Santa Maria, CA – Early commuters across California’s Central Coast are facing dense fog this morning, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory from the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard through 9 a.m. PDT Monday.
The advisory covers San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, including Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, Santa Maria, Lompoc, Buellton, and the Santa Ynez Valley. Visibility in affected areas may drop to a quarter mile or less, making driving hazardous along Highway 101, Highway 1, and nearby coastal routes.
According to the NWS, the fog is expected to gradually lift midmorning as temperatures rise. Until then, motorists are urged to use headlights, reduce speed, and maintain extra distance from other vehicles.
Travelers heading toward the Vandenberg Space Force Base, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Ynez Valley should prepare for pockets of extremely low visibility before sunrise.
Conditions are expected to improve by late morning, with sunshine returning by midday across most inland areas.
