Springfield, IL – Illinois residents are being urged to check their Frigidaire-brand 6-can minifridges after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced an expanded recall this week due to fire and burn hazards. The recall, issued January 15, 2026, adds about 330,000 additional units to a previous recall of 634,000 minifridges from July 2024.

According to the CPSC, affected model EFMIS121 units can short circuit, causing the plastic housing to ignite. Officials report at least six incidents of fires, resulting in property damage but no injuries so far.

The recalled minifridges were sold exclusively at Target stores across the United States and online at Target.com between January 2020 and October 2023, retailing for around $30. They were manufactured in China by ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co. Ltd. and imported by Curtis International Ltd. of Canada.

Consumers are advised to immediately unplug and stop using the minifridges. The CPSC instructs owners to cut the power cord, mark “Recall” on the front door with a permanent marker, and dispose of the unit following local and state guidelines. Refunds can be requested on the official website.

For questions, consumers can contact Curtis International Ltd. at 888-727-0198 or email for assistance.
