Springfield, IL – Deputies with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office arrested two suspects late Tuesday night after interrupting a burglary in progress at a Springfield business, authorities said.
According to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a burglary late Tuesday night at a business located in the 3000 block of Linden Avenue. When deputies arrived, two individuals wearing ski masks were allegedly located inside the business and taken into custody without incident.
Investigators said tools and copper wire belonging to the business were recovered at the scene. No injuries were reported.
The suspects were identified as Jesse W. Myers, 35, of Clearlake Village, and Richard J. Beiermann, 27, of Springfield. Both were arrested in connection with the burglary.
According to the sheriff’s office, Myers has 17 prior arrests involving burglary, robbery, theft, criminal damage, narcotics offenses, and traffic violations. Authorities said Beiermann had previously been arrested on multiple burglary and theft charges and was allegedly on pretrial release at the time of the incident.
Officials stated that Beiermann had reportedly removed his court-ordered electronic monitoring device prior to the burglary.
Sangamon County Sheriff Paula Crouch addressed the arrests, emphasizing public safety concerns tied to repeat offenders.
“When individuals repeatedly commit crimes and then violate the conditions meant to hold them accountable, it puts our community at risk,” Crouch said. “Those who demonstrate a pattern of criminal behavior and disregard for court orders need to be kept behind bars to protect the public.”
Formal charges and court dates were not immediately released. The investigation remains ongoing.
