Grand Junction, CO – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of western Colorado and eastern Utah Friday, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and the chance of small hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the San Juan Mountains face the highest risk, with a 30 to 40 percent chance of storms. Southeast Utah and nearby southern valleys may also see activity, with a 20 to 30 percent chance.
Forecasters say isolated storms could spread into central portions of Utah and Colorado later this evening, though coverage is expected to remain limited. Precipitation chances are forecast to continue through the weekend.
Hazards include brief heavy rainfall, small hail, and gusty outflow winds. The weather service reminds residents and outdoor enthusiasts: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
Travelers and hikers in higher elevations are urged to monitor conditions closely, as storms can form quickly and bring dangerous lightning.
