San Jose, California – A stretch of rising temperatures across the Bay Area is bringing a moderate HeatRisk to Contra Costa County and southern San Jose today, with impacts extending across the interior East and South Bay from Friday through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, the elevated risk primarily affects children, older adults, pregnant women, and people who work outdoors or lack access to air conditioning. The advisory, in effect through the weekend, warns of conditions that could lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly during afternoon peak temperatures.

Residents in Walnut Creek, Concord, San Jose, and Gilroy are urged to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, and avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. Cooling strategies include using fans, opening windows at night, and checking on vulnerable neighbors or family members.

While not considered extreme, the sustained heat can still pose health issues for those who are not well-acclimated or have existing medical conditions. Emergency services may see an uptick in calls if precautions aren’t followed.

The moderate HeatRisk remains in effect through Sunday, with updates expected if conditions worsen or warnings escalate.
