San Jose, California – Residents across the South Bay should prepare for a notably cold start to the week, as a Cold Weather Advisory takes effect early Monday morning for interior valleys, including the San Jose area.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey, the advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. PST Monday. During this period, overnight low temperatures are expected to fall into the low to mid-30s, cold enough to pose risks for sensitive populations.

Forecasters warn that the chilly conditions may be hazardous to unhoused individuals, as well as pets, livestock, and sensitive vegetation if proper precautions are not taken. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can increase the risk of hypothermia, particularly during the coldest pre-dawn hours.

While coastal areas are expected to remain slightly milder, inland valleys — including much of Santa Clara County — will experience the coldest readings. The National Weather Service also noted that even colder pockets could develop farther south, with parts of the southern Salinas Valley potentially dropping into the upper 20s to low 30s.

Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, bring pets indoors, and protect exposed plants and pipes. Those commuting early Monday should be prepared for a brisk morning, though no frost advisories or travel-related hazards have been issued at this time.

Temperatures are expected to gradually recover later Monday morning as sunshine increases, easing conditions by late morning and afternoon.
