San Francisco, California –High winds will sweep across the Bay Area and Central Coast late Friday through Sunday, raising the risk of downed tree limbs, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, northwesterly winds will increase Friday evening, with widespread gusts between 25 and 35 mph. In higher terrain and through passes, gusts could reach up to 45 mph. The advisory covers coastal counties from Marin to Monterey and includes interior valleys vulnerable to wind funnels.
Bay Area drivers should use caution on bridges and exposed roadways, particularly overnight when winds peak. Loose outdoor items like patio furniture and trash bins should be secured to avoid damage or injury. Recreational areas along the coast and in the hills may become dangerous for hiking or camping due to falling branches and shifting debris.
PG&E crews are on standby for possible outages, especially in wind-prone zones. Residents are urged to keep mobile devices charged and avoid parking under trees.
Wind conditions are expected to taper off late Sunday evening, but further alerts could be issued if gusts intensify or extend into Monday.
