San Francisco, Calif. – A late-summer heat wave is peaking across Northern California, but relief is on the way as cooler air begins to settle into the Bay Area starting Tuesday. Concord hit 100 degrees Sunday, and cities from Livermore to San Jose soared into the upper 90s, making for one of the hottest weekends of the season.

According to the National Weather Service, a shortwave trough is pushing into the region, weakening the ridge of high pressure that drove the heat. That shift will allow cooler onshore winds to return, steadily dropping daytime highs across the Bay Area and Central Coast through the week.

By Tuesday, San Jose and Livermore will fall back into the 80s, while Concord cools from triple digits to the low 90s. Along the coast, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, and Santa Cruz will stay in the 60s and 70s with the strongest marine influence. Napa and Santa Rosa, which topped out in the 90s Sunday, should be back in the low 80s by midweek.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors until conditions ease. The National Weather Service says the region’s cooling trend will continue through the weekend, offering widespread relief.
