San Francisco, Calif. – Dense fog blanketed the Bay Area early Wednesday, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less on major roads. Drivers along Highway 1 and Highway 101 face the greatest risk of delays, with traffic expected to remain slow until conditions lift. Officials urge commuters to leave extra time and avoid speeding in fog-prone stretches.

According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The advisory covers San Francisco, Monterey Bay, the Big Sur Coast, and the North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore. Travel hazards are most likely during the morning rush, especially for coastal commuters heading into San Francisco.

Once the fog clears, skies turn sunny with highs reaching near 78 degrees by afternoon. Winds shift southwest at 10 mph, calming after sunset.

Thursday brings a slight chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m., with clouds building across the Bay Area. Winds could gust up to 18 mph, and rainfall may reach a tenth of an inch. Friday remains partly sunny, though showers may linger in spots. The weekend clears out, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s expected.

Motorists should continue to use headlights in low-visibility areas and maintain safe following distances. Coastal fog could return overnight later this week. Additional advisories may be issued as storm chances grow Thursday.
