San Francisco, CA – After a stretch of dry autumn weather, rain is forecast to return to the Bay Area by the middle of next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Monterey.
Forecasters say a deep Pacific trough will move toward the West Coast on Wednesday, bringing periods of moderate to heavy rain through Thursday. A few thunderstorms are also possible as the system passes.
The NWS reports that lighter rain may linger into Friday, with rainfall amounts still being refined as models evolve. The heaviest totals are expected along the coastal ranges and North Bay hills, where up to an inch of rain could fall by late Thursday.
Potential impacts include wet roadways, minor creek rises, and nuisance flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas. Commuters should prepare for slower travel and reduced visibility during heavier showers.
“Rainfall amounts are still uncertain, particularly regarding the latter part of next week,” forecasters said, adding that updates will be issued as confidence grows in the storm track and intensity.
Residents from Santa Rosa to San Jose and Monterey are encouraged to check for updated forecasts as the midweek system approaches.
