California – Waves push higher against seawalls, tide lines creep onto pavement, and rain-slick streets greet the final morning of 2025 along the Bay. Coastal flooding concerns are building as unusually high tides combine with steady rain, creating travel and safety issues that stretch into the first weekend of 2026.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from early this morning through Sunday afternoon. Water levels of up to 1.5 to 2.2 feet above normal are possible in low-lying shoreline areas around San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay, and the Pacific Coast.

In San Francisco, drivers should expect water pooling near bayside roads, waterfront parks, and parking lots during high tide cycles. Embarcadero corridors, marina areas, and coastal access points may see brief flooding, especially during morning and midday tide peaks. Isolated road closures are possible, though widespread shutdowns are not expected.

Rain continues to add weight to the situation. Periods of moderate rainfall persist through New Year’s Day, keeping storm drains stressed and sidewalks slick. Winds may gust along the coast, reducing visibility and making walking near open water hazardous at times.

Temperatures remain mild, but damp conditions will dominate daily routines. Commuters should allow extra time, avoid driving through saltwater-covered roads, and never bypass barricades. Coastal residents should secure flood-prone property and monitor tide timing closely.

Additional advisories could be issued if tides or rainfall intensify. Conditions remain unsettled heading into Friday and the first weekend of 2026. Planning to be near the water? Let us know what you’re seeing along the coast.
