San Francisco, CA – The Pacific roars this morning, churning up whitecaps and pounding surf along the Northern California coast. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Bay coast, warning of strong rip currents, sneaker waves, and cold water hazards through Sunday evening.

Waves are building from a powerful Pacific swell that arrived late Thursday. Meteorologists say breaking waves of 10 to 14 feet are possible along west-facing beaches such as Ocean Beach, Half Moon Bay, and Point Reyes. Sneaker waves — larger, unexpected surges that can sweep people off rocks or jetties — are the biggest risk today and Saturday.

Temperatures stay mild for late November, with highs near 60°F to 62°F across the city and low 50s along the coast. Skies remain mostly sunny through the weekend, but brisk northwest breezes will make coastal areas feel cooler. Early mornings may bring patchy fog near the bay, clearing by midday.

Looking ahead, early December begins on a tranquil but cooler note. Models hint at a shift toward wetter conditions across the West Coast next week — possibly the first sign of a winter-like pattern forming around December 3–6.

If you’re planning a beach trip this weekend, stay well back from the water and keep an eye on incoming sets. Even experienced surfers are urged to use caution.
