San Francisco, California – Dry roads and clear skies will give way to slick commutes within days, as rain begins moving into the Bay Area by early Tuesday morning, with impacts expected during the morning drive.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, dry conditions will hold through Monday night before a steady વરસાદ pattern develops starting around 6 a.m. Tuesday. Rain is expected to continue in waves through Thursday, with widespread totals between 0.5 and 1 inch across San Francisco, Oakland, and Santa Rosa.

Higher totals could create localized street flooding, especially in low-lying areas and along busy corridors like U.S. Highway 101 and Interstate 880. Coastal regions and parts of the North Bay may see up to 1.5 inches, increasing the risk of ponding on roads and reduced visibility below one mile during heavier bursts.

Inland cities such as Livermore and Hollister are expected to receive lighter totals between 0.2 and 0.5 inches, but even minor rainfall after a dry stretch can lead to oil-slick conditions on roadways. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check tire tread before Tuesday morning.

Residents should use the dry weekend to clear gutters and secure outdoor items before rain arrives. Additional advisories or updated rainfall totals may be issued as the system develops into midweek.
