San Francisco, CA – Hazardous surf will continue along the Pacific Coast through Saturday morning as powerful waves and strong rip currents affect beaches across the Bay Area and Monterey regions, according to the National Weather Service in San Francisco.
Forecasters warn of an increased risk for sneaker waves — sudden, powerful surges that can sweep people off rocks and beaches without warning. Breaking waves between 14 and 19 feet are expected, with some favored coastal spots seeing sets reaching up to 25 feet.
The NWS advises residents and visitors to stay off jetties, piers, and waterside infrastructure, and to avoid entering the surf. Even experienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water until conditions improve Saturday.
Beachgoers should remain alert, monitor local forecasts, and never turn their back on the ocean.
