San Francisco, California – Cloud cover up to 70 percent could block early morning sky views across much of the Bay Area by 6 a.m. Tuesday, limiting visibility along major corridors including US-101 and Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service in the San Francisco Bay Area, widespread low clouds are expected to blanket much of the region Tuesday morning, reducing viewing conditions through at least midmorning. Areas near the San Francisco Bayshore, Oakland, Concord and Livermore along I-880 and I-680 are likely to remain under a thick marine layer around sunrise.

Communities in Sonoma County valleys and along the coastal stretches of Highway 1 may also see persistent cloud cover. Drivers on I-280 and CA-92 could encounter pockets of reduced visibility in elevated terrain where low clouds hug the hills.

Some partial clearing is possible farther south and inland. Portions of the southern Salinas Valley, northern Napa Valley and interior Contra Costa County near Antioch may see occasional breaks in the clouds during the morning hours. Higher elevations above the marine layer could offer clearer conditions compared to lower elevations near the Bay shoreline.

Motorists should use headlights during low-visibility periods and allow extra travel time during the early commute. Those seeking clearer skies may need to travel inland or to higher elevations before 9 or 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Cloud trends could shift overnight, and updated statements may be issued if clearing develops faster or slower than anticipated across the Bay Area.
