San Francisco, California – Cold overnight temperatures are prompting a Cold Weather Advisory across much of the Interior Bay Area and Central Coast, with lows dipping to near 33 degrees from 1 a.m. through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

While coastal San Francisco will remain slightly milder, inland neighborhoods and valleys are expected to see the coldest conditions. Temperatures in interior East Bay locations such as Concord, Livermore, and Santa Rosa are forecast to fall into the low to mid-30s, with pockets of colder air possible in wind-sheltered areas. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, these conditions pose an increased risk to unhoused individuals, pets, and livestock during the overnight hours.

The advisory also covers parts of the Central Coast, including Salinas, Hollister, and interior Monterey County, where similar low-30s temperatures are expected before sunrise. Prolonged exposure may lead to hypothermia, especially for those without adequate shelter or heating. Officials stress the importance of checking on vulnerable neighbors and ensuring pets are kept indoors overnight.

Residents using alternative heat sources are urged to use caution. According to the National Weather Service, generators, grills, and propane heaters should never be used indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, particularly during cold, calm nights.

Sensitive plants and crops may be damaged or killed if left unprotected. Gardeners should cover tender vegetation or bring potted plants indoors before temperatures fall overnight. Conditions will improve after sunrise Tuesday as temperatures climb back into the 50s and lower 60s under dry skies.
