San Francisco, California – Minor flooding could impact low-lying parts of the Bay Area Monday night as astronomical high tides push water inland along San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay.
According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday for bayshore areas, including San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, and parts of Marin and Sonoma counties. The advisory warns of minor flooding in parking lots, parks, and streets, especially where water tends to pool during high tide cycles.
Localized road closures are possible. Drivers are urged not to bypass barricades or attempt to cross flooded streets, where the depth and current may be deceptive.
The flooding is tied to predictable astronomical tides, which occur during both winter and summer solstices. Areas near Embarcadero, Sausalito, and Point Richmond may see the most impact, particularly in zones with poor drainage or close proximity to the shoreline.
The advisory expires early Tuesday morning, but similar high tide events are likely throughout the week. Residents should monitor updates from the NWS and local agencies for any new alerts or closures.
