San Francisco, California – Gusty winds and dry air are combining to raise the risk of grass fires across the Bay Area and Central Coast through Thursday, prompting officials to urge extreme caution.
According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, an elevated fire weather threat remains in effect for higher terrain in the North Bay, East Bay, and across southern Monterey and San Benito counties. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, and relative humidity may drop as low as 15% in some areas.
These conditions, classified as a “minor” fire weather risk, can still lead to fast-moving grass fires if ignition sources are present. Residents are advised to avoid activities that may cause sparks, such as dragging trailer chains or using outdoor equipment during the hottest parts of the day.
Increased fire danger is expected to persist through Thursday evening. Emergency officials recommend staying alert to local warnings and having an evacuation plan ready, especially in grassy or rural areas.
