San Francisco, Calif. – Temperatures are set to climb across inland parts of the Bay Area this week, with Concord, Livermore, and Hollister all pushing toward triple digits Thursday and Friday. Coastal cities will remain cooler, but the interior will see Moderate HeatRisk conditions develop.
According to the National Weather Service, a high-pressure ridge is building over the western U.S., weakening onshore breezes and allowing heat to settle inland. While San Francisco and Santa Cruz are expected to stay closer to the 70s and low 80s, areas east of the Bay could reach 98 to 101 degrees by the end of the week.
Drivers and commuters in Contra Costa, Santa Clara, and Alameda counties should prepare for hotter afternoons, with heat advisories possible if conditions trend warmer. Public health officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and checking on elderly neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat stress.
The heat will be most pronounced Thursday and Friday before temperatures ease slightly over the weekend. NWS advises residents to stay updated, as additional alerts could be issued if temperatures climb higher than currently expected.
