San Francisco, CA – Residents across the Bay Area should brace for hotter-than-normal weather through midweek, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of a moderate heat risk for much of the region.
According to the NWS San Francisco Bay Area office, temperatures from Monday, Sept. 15, through Wednesday, Sept. 17, will climb 5 to nearly 15 degrees above seasonal averages. Inland cities such as Concord, Livermore, Hollister, and San Jose are forecast to reach the mid-90s to upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday, while coastal communities will stay cooler in the 70s.
The agency noted that the heat will pose moderate health risks, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and people with chronic conditions. Areas facing the highest risks include the interior North Bay, East Bay Hills, Santa Clara Valley, and parts of the Central Coast.
“Moderate HeatRisk can cause heat-related illness, especially for those who are heat-sensitive,” the NWS said in a Sunday bulletin. Officials urged residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, use fans or air conditioning when possible, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
The warm spell is expected to ease slightly by Thursday, with inland highs dipping back into the 80s. Still, NWS cautioned that Tuesday and Wednesday will be the peak risk days.
Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and adjust outdoor plans to avoid peak afternoon heat.
