San Francisco, Calif. – Dangerous heat is gripping Northern California as a heat advisory stretches across the Bay Area and Central Coast through Saturday evening, with temperatures pushing into the triple digits. Interior valleys and coastal ranges, including parts of Monterey and San Benito counties, face the greatest risk.

According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, the advisory began Thursday morning and will last until 9 p.m. Saturday for interior Monterey and San Benito. The North Bay valleys and San Francisco shoreline remain under heat alerts until Thursday night, while Santa Cruz and East Bay communities will feel the impact through Friday evening.

Daytime highs are expected to reach the middle 80s to low 100s, raising concerns for heat-related illnesses, particularly in urban centers such as San Jose, Livermore, and Hollister. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during the afternoon, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children, and pets.

Cooling centers are expected to open across several counties, with local agencies encouraging residents without air conditioning to seek relief. The weather service stressed that even coastal areas, typically buffered by marine breezes, could see unusually warm temperatures.

The advisory remains in effect through Saturday evening, with additional alerts possible if the heat persists into next week.
