Salinas, CA – The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for parts of San Benito and southern Monterey Counties, including the Southern Salinas Valley, Arroyo Seco, Lake San Antonio, and areas near Pinnacles National Park. The advisory is in effect from midnight through 8 a.m. Thursday.
Forecasters expect overnight lows near 34°F, which could pose risks to sensitive crops, outdoor vegetation, pets, and livestock. The cold conditions may also impact unhoused residents and vulnerable populations across inland valleys.
According to the NWS, prolonged exposure could result in hypothermia for people and animals. Residents are urged to dress in layers, use heaters safely, and avoid using grills or generators indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Officials recommend covering sensitive plants, providing shelter and water for animals, and checking on neighbors who may be at risk.
Temperatures are expected to rebound later Thursday morning as the region warms under clear skies.
