SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Dangerous heat will grip South-Central Texas Monday as afternoon highs climb to 100 degrees with a heat index as high as 105. Evening thunderstorms could bring temporary relief, but the National Weather Service warns the heat remains the primary concern.
According to the NWS, storms are most likely after 4 p.m. Monday across San Antonio and nearby counties, with a 20 percent chance of development. Overnight lows will only dip into the upper 70s, offering little overnight cooling. Heat index readings will stay near 104 Tuesday with another round of late-day storms possible.
By Wednesday, storm chances rise to 40 percent, particularly north and east of San Antonio along the I-35 corridor. Rain and clouds may hold afternoon highs just below triple digits, though the air will remain muggy. Thursday carries the best chance of widespread storms, with showers possible most of the day and highs in the mid-90s.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers should also prepare for sudden downpours and slick roadways when storms roll through.
Heat and storm chances remain in place through the end of the week, with scattered showers expected into the weekend.
