Austin, Texas – Storm chances return to South-Central Texas overnight, with the first round of rain and thunderstorms expected to develop after midnight and intensify into the Thursday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, rain chances will climb to 40–50 percent early Thursday, with a few storms possibly turning strong and producing pockets of heavy rainfall. The highest impact window begins after midnight and continues through early morning hours.

Cities including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and San Marcos could see brief downpours and lightning that may slow travel on major corridors like I-35. Localized ponding on roads is possible where heavier rain develops.

Storm chances briefly decrease later Thursday and Friday before increasing again heading into the weekend. Easter weekend currently carries a 60–70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, which could affect outdoor events and travel plans across the region.

Residents should stay weather-aware overnight, charge devices ahead of storms, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Additional updates are likely as storm timing and intensity become clearer heading into Thursday morning and the holiday weekend.
