TEXAS — The early-morning air in San Antonio feels thick and restless, as if the city’s warmth is holding its breath before a change. By sunrise, clouds streak the southern sky — a hint of the developing storm system expected to build through the end of the week.

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio reports another hot, dry Wednesday with highs climbing to the mid-90s, a sharp reminder that fall heat still has a hold on Central Texas. Winds stay light, but humidity is slowly creeping upward. That growing moisture is the setup for a wetter, stormier Friday and Saturday.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and breezy, with temperatures near 90°F. Skies begin to thicken Thursday night as Gulf air feeds northward, setting the stage for Friday thunderstorms. The first storms could form near the Hill Country before spreading east along the I-35 corridor. Some storms may bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning, especially during the late-morning and afternoon commute hours.

Saturday looks to be the wettest stretch, with widespread rain likely across the region and a few embedded thunderstorms possible. Outdoor plans — from Friday night football to weekend festivals — could face delays or cancellations due to rain and lightning risk.

By Sunday, drier air should return, leaving behind sunshine, highs in the mid-80s, and that fresh-washed feeling after a long Texas rain. Early next week trends calmer, though another system may organize over the Gulf by midweek.
