San Antonio, Texas – Hot, summer-like temperatures near 95 degrees today will give way to isolated storms by late afternoon, with lightning and gusty winds capable of disrupting travel across south-central Texas before sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk is in place both Saturday and Sunday afternoon into the evening. Storms are expected to develop between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., with hazards including large hail, damaging wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes.

High temperatures will peak between 90 and 95 degrees along the I-35 corridor, including Austin and San Antonio, with even hotter readings of 95 to 98 degrees across the Rio Grande Plains near Del Rio and Eagle Pass. South winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, will add to the heat before storms begin to form.

Cities including New Braunfels, San Marcos, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg may see brief downpours and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Drivers along I-35, US-90, and Loop 1604 should prepare for sudden weather changes and slick road conditions.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid open areas during lightning, and monitor alerts through the evening. Storm chances repeat Sunday afternoon, with additional updates expected by midday as timing and coverage become clearer.
