Duluth, Minnesota – Dry air is delaying rain for now, but a soaking system arriving late Monday could quickly turn roads slick and raise minor flooding concerns across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, much of Saturday will remain dry despite increasing cloud cover, as low humidity—dropping to around 25% in some inland areas—limits early rainfall. Any showers that do develop today will be isolated and brief.

The pattern shifts significantly Monday evening, when widespread rain develops between 6 p.m. and midnight and continues into Tuesday morning. Rainfall totals are expected to exceed 1 inch in many locations, including Duluth, Superior, Hibbing, and Ashland. The heaviest rainfall is most likely during the overnight hours, increasing the risk of water pooling on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Key travel routes such as I-35, US-53, and Highway 2 could see reduced visibility and standing water during peak rainfall overnight into the early Tuesday commute. Communities along the North Shore, including Two Harbors and Grand Marais, may also experience steady rain and slick conditions.

Residents should monitor updates, clear storm drains, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Conditions improve later Tuesday as rain tapers, but additional updates are expected by Monday afternoon as timing and rainfall totals are refined.
