San Antonio, Texas – Strong thunderstorms could produce 60 mph wind gusts along I-35 Saturday afternoon and evening as rain chances climb across South-Central Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, storm chances will increase late Friday, with isolated strong to severe storms possible after 6 p.m., especially across the southern Edwards Plateau near Del Rio and Kerrville. Rain probabilities Friday evening range from 20% to 40% in western areas.

By Saturday, a line of storms is forecast to sweep across much of South-Central Texas during the afternoon and evening hours. Rain chances rise to 50% to 90% for most communities, including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and surrounding areas.

The entire region is under a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk for severe weather Saturday. Forecasters say a few storms may become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts the primary concern. Large hail, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall are also possible. An isolated brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Major roadways including Interstate 35 from Austin to San Antonio, Interstate 10 near Kerrville, and U.S. Highway 90 near Del Rio could see sudden downpours and reduced visibility during peak travel hours Saturday.

Outdoor events and weekend plans may face interruptions, particularly Saturday afternoon and evening when storm coverage is expected to be greatest.

Residents are advised to remain weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings as conditions evolve.
