Austin, Texas – Heavy rain continues to pound Central Texas, putting drivers and residents on high alert for flash flooding and rapidly rising rivers until 9 p.m. Monday. Major highways across the Hill Country and the Austin-San Antonio corridor could see dangerous water on roadways as another round of intense storms moves through the area.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect for the Hill Country, Southern Edwards Plateau, and Travis and Williamson Counties. Forecasters warn that an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain may fall quickly, with isolated spots picking up as much as 3 to 5 inches. Excessive runoff could result in flash flooding of low-lying areas, small creeks, and major river crossings—including the already-swollen Colorado and San Gabriel rivers.

Austin, San Antonio, Georgetown, and Fredericksburg are among the cities most at risk this evening. Travel delays and possible road closures are likely along US-281, I-35, and portions of Loop 1604. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, avoid low-water crossings, and never drive through flooded roads. Flash flooding remains a top hazard, especially in neighborhoods with poor drainage or near area campgrounds.

River levels are already elevated from recent rainfall, increasing the threat of additional rises and potential evacuations. The National Weather Service will update warnings as needed through the evening.
