Abilene, Texas – Severe thunderstorms could rattle much of West Central Texas late Saturday into early Sunday, threatening Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding areas with damaging winds, large hail, and the risk of flash flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a cluster of storms will likely move into northwestern counties late Saturday afternoon, then sweep south overnight. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible, especially along Highway 277 and I-20 corridors. Localized flash flooding may also develop where heavier downpours persist.
Cities at highest risk include Abilene, Sweetwater, and San Angelo, with marginal to slight risk across Nolan, Taylor, and Tom Green counties. Power outages and tree damage may occur if severe wind gusts materialize. Residents should charge devices, avoid unnecessary travel after dark, and ensure multiple ways to receive emergency alerts overnight.
This round of severe weather follows a quieter week and may bring the region’s most significant storms since June. Late-night lightning and fast-changing conditions could pose hazards for drivers and outdoor plans.
Severe weather warnings remain possible into early Sunday. Stay tuned to local alerts and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued.
