Abilene, Texas – Central Texas residents face a wet and potentially dangerous weekend as heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to develop through Sunday night. Drivers should prepare for localized flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and along rural roads where water can rise quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a stalled frontal boundary is fueling rounds of storms across the region, with the heaviest rain falling in west central Texas. The agency warns that stronger storms could drop enough rain in a short time to overwhelm drainage systems, leading to flash flooding.

Abilene, San Angelo, and nearby communities are under a “slight risk” of excessive rainfall, meaning scattered flooding is possible through Sunday night. The storm system is expected to shift slowly east, keeping showers in the area into Monday morning.

Officials urge drivers to avoid low-water crossings and never attempt to drive through flooded roads. Power outages are possible where storms intensify, and residents are encouraged to keep devices charged and have flashlights ready.

The threat of heavy rainfall remains in place through Sunday night, with additional advisories possible if flooding worsens.
