Abilene, Texas – Triple-digit heat will grip much of West-Central Texas through the end of the workweek before a weekend cold front finally provides some relief and a chance for rain. Afternoon highs in Abilene and San Angelo are expected to top 100 degrees through Friday, with record highs of 105 to 107 degrees in sight.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a cold front will push into the region Saturday into Sunday, dropping temperatures back into the 80s and bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances climb from near zero this week to 40–55 percent by Sunday and Monday across Abilene, Brownwood, Brady, and San Angelo.
Forecasters are also tracking Tropical Storm Lorena in the Pacific, which could funnel additional moisture toward the Southern Plains and Southern Rockies by early next week. If that moisture arrives, rainfall totals and storm activity could increase beyond the current outlook.
Drivers should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and prepare for changing travel conditions over the weekend as storms develop. The Weather Service says more advisories may be issued depending on Lorena’s path.
