San Angelo, TX – Residents across West Central Texas should prepare for a hard freeze tonight as temperatures fall into the mid to upper 20s, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Angelo. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly after sunset, bringing widespread freezing conditions across the region.
Earlier Monday, sunshine returned to areas including San Angelo, Sonora, and Ozona, while clouds lingered across the Big Country where temperatures remained in the 30s. According to the NWS, afternoon highs are expected to climb into the upper 50s and 60s where sunshine is present, while cloudier areas remain cooler.
By tonight, however, temperatures will fall well below freezing across all counties, with forecast lows ranging from 24–29 degrees by early Tuesday. Locations such as Abilene, Ballinger, Junction, Brady, and Brownwood are all expected to dip into the 20s, with the coldest readings in low-lying and rural areas.
The NWS notes that skies will remain mostly clear overnight with light, variable winds near daybreak. While no precipitation is expected, residents are advised to take precautions to protect pets, plants, and exposed pipes from the freeze.
Forecasters say temperatures will gradually warm later in the week, but Monday night marks one of the coldest nights of the season so far for portions of the Big Country and Concho Valley.
