San Angelo, Texas – A sharp drop in temperatures will set the stage for potentially dangerous flooding conditions in West Central Texas this weekend, with the highest risk arriving Sunday as tropical moisture from the Pacific surges into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, rainfall will intensify throughout Sunday, especially south of the San Angelo to Brownwood line, where storms could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain in under an hour. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying and urban areas, particularly along and south of I-10, including Junction, Sonora, and Mason. Scattered storms Saturday may bring brief downpours, but Sunday is expected to bring the most widespread impacts.

Residents in San Angelo, Eldorado, and Menard should prepare for rapidly rising water and avoid travel during heavy rain. Never drive through flooded roads. Dangerous lightning may also accompany storms, creating risk for outdoor events throughout the weekend.

Rain chances will persist through Sunday evening, with more rounds of showers possible into early next week. Additional watches or warnings could be issued as conditions evolve.
