San Angelo, TX – A new Flood Watch has been issued for much of West Central Texas beginning Wednesday evening, with forecasters warning of several rounds of heavy rainfall expected to continue through late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, an approaching upper-level storm system will combine with unusually high moisture levels, creating conditions favorable for excessive rainfall across the region. Storms are expected to develop Wednesday night and continue into Thursday and Thursday night, with the highest totals likely southeast of a Brownwood–Brady–Menard–Sonora line.
The Flood Watch includes seven counties: Brown, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, and Sutton. Cities covered by the alert include Brady, Sonora, Brownwood, San Saba, Junction, Mason, and surrounding rural communities.
Forecasters say rainfall totals of 2–4 inches are likely across much of the region, with isolated amounts over 6 inches possible. The risk for flooding will increase as repeated waves of storms move through, raising the chance for swollen creeks, rapidly rising streams, and low-water crossing hazards.
The Weather Service cautions that excessive runoff may cause flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially where drainage is poor. Residents are urged to stay alert for potential Flood Warnings and be prepared to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.
