San Angelo, TX – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for 18 counties across West Central Texas, placing San Angelo and surrounding regions under high fire danger through 5 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT and includes the Big Country, Heartland, eastern Concho Valley, Schleicher County, and Menard County. Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to strong southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph, combined with relative humidity as low as 10%.

Authorities warn that any fire ignited during this period may spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to avoid activities that could produce sparks, including welding or driving through dry grass.

The warning affects counties including Fisher, Nolan, Coke, Runnels, Tom Green, Concho, Schleicher, Haskell, Throckmorton, Jones, Shackelford, Taylor, Callahan, Coleman, Brown, McCulloch, San Saba, and Menard.

Officials recommend securing trailer chains, avoiding outdoor flames, and staying updated through local fire departments and emergency alerts. Fire crews remain on high alert throughout the region to respond quickly to any outbreaks.
