Salt Lake City, UT – Strong southwest winds are expected to sweep across much of Utah beginning Monday afternoon, prompting a Wind Advisory for several regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, gusts could reach up to 55 mph in western, southern, and eastern valleys starting around noon Monday and lasting through the evening. Sustained wind speeds are projected between 25 and 35 mph, with peak gusts impacting travel and outdoor activity.

Areas such as the Great Salt Lake Desert and the western Uinta Basin are likely to see lighter wind activity. However, for most valley locations, residents should prepare for rapid changes in weather conditions and increased hazards due to blowing debris and potential power disruptions.

The Weather Service has assigned a Minor Risk Level (1 out of 4), noting wind gusts up to 57 mph are possible. Officials advise securing outdoor items like trampolines, trash cans, and decorations to prevent damage. Power outages may occur, so households are urged to ensure emergency supplies are accessible.

Winds are expected to ease late Monday evening. Drivers of high-profile vehicles and those traveling along east-west routes should use extra caution. Updates will be provided via weather.gov/saltlakecity.
