Salt Lake City, UT – Rain returns to northern Utah Friday, bringing slick roads and changing weekend plans across Salt Lake City and the I-15 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30% chance of showers begins Friday afternoon, rising to an 80% chance by Saturday. Clouds build Thursday night, with overnight lows dipping to 49°F and Friday highs peaking near 60°F. Calm morning winds will shift northward at 5 to 9 mph during the day, potentially complicating afternoon traffic.

By Saturday, steady rain is expected to persist through much of the day, followed by scattered showers into Sunday morning. Motorists should drive cautiously, especially along I-15, where wet pavement may reduce visibility and reaction time. Rainfall is forecast to continue into next week, with rain-snow mixes possible Monday and Tuesday.

Temperatures will stay mild through the weekend. Saturday’s high is near 53°F, with Sunday warming up to 57°F under partly sunny skies. Lows overnight range from the upper 30s to low 40s.

Looking ahead, Monday’s storm could bring snow, especially in higher elevations, with highs around 41°F and lows near freezing. Tuesday and Wednesday continue the unsettled pattern, with highs in the mid-50s and potential snow showers at night.

Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts frequently and plan for wet commutes. Drivers should ensure windshield wipers are functioning and allow extra travel time starting Friday afternoon.
