Salt Lake City, Utah – Residents across Utah are urged to stay fire aware as gusty winds and very dry air bring critical fire weather conditions to central, southern, and eastern parts of the state Saturday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, southwesterly winds with gusts reaching up to 30 mph will combine with relative humidity dropping as low as 6%—creating a dangerous mix for wildfires, especially from St. George to Price and Moab. The warning covers much of the state south and east of Salt Lake City, with the most significant risk centered on open rangelands, canyons, and foothills.

Travelers on I-15, US-89, and US-191 should watch for blowing dust and avoid stopping in grassy areas. Outdoor burning is strictly discouraged, and campfires should only be used in designated, fire-safe locations. Officials urge everyone to secure trailer chains, properly dispose of cigarettes, and follow local fire restrictions. Fire crews across Utah are on high alert, as these conditions can turn a single spark into a fast-moving wildfire.

This marks one of the most widespread July fire weather events for Utah in recent years. Stay tuned for updates as the threat could extend into Sunday if dry winds persist.
