Salt Lake City, Utah – A stretch of hot weather will dominate Utah next week, but not before a round of isolated thunderstorms Saturday afternoon brings a brief break from the heat. Storms are expected to be scattered, with the strongest cells producing gusty winds and lightning along the Wasatch Front.

According to the National Weather Service, Salt Lake City will see highs near 92 Saturday with a 20% chance of afternoon storms, tapering off after sunset. By Sunday, skies turn clear and temperatures climb, starting a prolonged hot spell. Highs will reach 92 Sunday, 94 Monday, and surge to 97 Tuesday before nearing 98 on Wednesday.

Residents across northern Utah should be prepared for triple-digit heat in some valleys. Afternoon commutes on I-15, I-80, and I-215 could be slowed briefly Saturday by storm cells, though widespread rain is not expected. The main hazards will be lightning strikes and strong outflow winds.

Health officials advise limiting outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors as the heat builds.

The heat wave is expected to hold through midweek, with only slight storm chances returning by Thursday.
