Salt Lake City, Utah – Southern Utah is bracing for critical fire weather conditions Tuesday as strong southwest winds combine with extremely dry air. Gusts up to 30 mph could rapidly spread any new fires, posing a significant risk to communities and wildlands.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Salt Lake City, relative humidity levels will drop below 10% across areas below 8,000 feet, creating ideal conditions for fire ignition and growth. The impacted area includes much of southern Utah.
Residents in cities like St. George, Cedar City, and Kanab should be extra vigilant. Campfires are strongly discouraged, and any activities that could create sparks, such as operating machinery or discarding cigarettes, should be avoided. Local fire restrictions are likely in effect and should be followed closely. These conditions are similar to those seen in past wildfire seasons that led to rapid fire expansion.
The critical fire weather conditions are expected to persist throughout Tuesday. Additional advisories or alerts will be issued if the threat level escalates or extends into Wednesday.
