Salt Lake City, UT – Unseasonably hot air is surging into Utah this afternoon, pushing temperatures toward record levels and creating an early taste of summer across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a strong high-pressure system will drive temperatures as much as 25°F above normal through Wednesday afternoon. Highs along the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Provo, are expected to climb into the upper 70s, with some areas nearing 80°F during peak heating hours.

Southern Utah communities such as St. George could see even higher readings, while northern valleys warm rapidly under clear skies. This level of heat in late March may break multiple daily records and challenge monthly records in some locations.

The warmth will also accelerate snowmelt in higher elevations, increasing runoff into local creeks and streams. Drivers along I-15 and I-84 should be alert for changing conditions near canyon areas where water flow may increase.

A shift arrives Thursday as a dry cold front moves through, dropping temperatures by 10°F to 15°F across northern Utah. Until then, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions later this week.
