Salt Lake City, Utah – Much of Utah and southwest Wyoming face an increased threat of flash flooding through Tuesday as deep monsoonal moisture fuels heavy rainfall across the region. Emergency officials urge residents and visitors to reconsider outdoor activities, particularly in flood-prone areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, storms developing this afternoon and evening could produce intense rainfall capable of flooding slot canyons, normally dry washes, steep terrain, and recent burn scars. Urban areas may also see rapid runoff that overwhelms storm drains and roadways.

Travelers on I-15 and I-80 could face sudden water over roadways, while popular hiking spots such as Zion National Park, Capitol Reef, and the Uinta Mountains are at heightened risk of dangerous flash floods. Officials recommend avoiding narrow canyons and washes, keeping cell phones charged, and having an evacuation plan ready.

The risk remains elevated into tonight, with the possibility of additional advisories or warnings if storms intensify. Residents are urged to stay alert for weather alerts and be prepared to seek higher ground quickly if conditions worsen.
