Salt Lake City, Utah – Temperatures will plunge below freezing across much of Utah by 8 p.m. Friday, putting crops, plumbing, and early spring growth at immediate risk overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 8 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday for the Wasatch Front, Tooele and Rush Valleys, and parts of eastern Utah. Lows are expected to fall into the mid-20s to low 30s across major population centers, with Rush Valley dropping into the mid-teens.

Communities including Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, and Tooele will see widespread frost, especially along the I-15 corridor where early morning travel could coincide with icy patches on elevated surfaces. In rural areas like Hanksville and Green River, prolonged cold could impact agriculture and exposed infrastructure.

Residents are urged to cover sensitive plants, drain sprinkler systems, and protect exposed pipes before temperatures fall tonight. Even brief exposure to these conditions can damage vegetation and lead to costly plumbing issues.

The cold snap will ease after 9 a.m. Saturday, but additional advisories could be issued if temperatures trend lower than expected overnight.
